Mocha

During the rescue of Diva the Deaf Pig in June 2018, after she was abandoned by her previous caretaker, we were asked at the last minute to take in a mama cat and her seven newborn kittens. Skye brought the entire feline family back home, setting up her bathroom's garden tub as a temporary nursery. Soon after, the family was moved to the climate-controlled barn, where they were safe but had plenty of space to be playful kittens. Once the kittens were weaned, we found forever homes for five of them, but Mama Freya and her daughters, Storm and Mocha, remained at the sanctuary.

Mocha’s color is called tortoiseshell due to the irregular pattern of black and brown, resembling the colors found on some tortoise shells. She’s a petite cat, often mistaken for a half-grown kitten.

Mocha is one of our three indoor/outdoor cats, though she rarely chooses to go outside. Since moving in, she has claimed Summer’s room as her own. Despite having a cat door that opens to the rest of the house, she is hardly ever seen out and about. Originally, she lived as a barn cat with her sister and mom, but after she mysteriously and severely broke her leg in 2020 and needed emergency surgery, she was moved to the house to recover.
