Catniss

We adopted Catniss as a tiny kitten on Valentine’s Day 2014 from the Bainbridge Humane Society—the same year we welcomed baby goats and chicks, and rescued our first rooster, Fred, and our first piggy, Ollie. Catniss was Summer’s first cat, something she had dreamed of for so long!

Our first day with Catniss was an adventure. Before even getting her home, we lost her inside our best friend's house! We ended up staying the night, taking off work the next day, and recruiting friends to help find her. We were convinced she had squeezed through a small hole in the wall meant for a cable wire and were just about to cut a bigger hole when we heard a faint meow from across the room. It turned out she had climbed into a dresser and was simply hiding from us that entire time. It was quite a day, to say the least!

That day, we realized Catniss wasn’t going to be the kind of kitty who craved constant attention. She’s an independent girl who does things on her own terms—much like her namesake, Katniss from The Hunger Games. While she’s very sweet and occasionally enjoys some pets and love, she’s a bit aloof. She can usually be found lounging on the porch in the dog yard, either relaxing in the shade or sunbathing.
